Our objective: Realising children's rights
Any interventions aimed at a long-term positive impact on children's lives must contribute to realising and safeguarding their rights. This is the focus of our work, both in Germany and abroad.Learn more
Bolivia: Anyone who meets Aurelio is delighted with the spirit of this seven-year-old boy. He may be blind, but he has a good chance of pursuing a career and having his own family. Kindernothilfe supports a project that will accompany this boy on his way to a brighter future. Please help with a donation.
In late 2008, Kindernothilfe’s local partner organisation FAPIZ (Fundación Arquidiocesana Padre Ignacio Zalles) launched a pilot project to support people with disabilities. Deeply impressed by the success of this initiative, we decided to closely collaborate with FAPIZ. “Aurelio was born into a life of utter poverty”, says FAPIZ Director Mauro Morató Camacho. "His parents were ashamed of him. After all, in Bolivian society, disabilities are often viewed as a punishment. So when staff members reached the village where he lived, it took a while for them to gain the family's trust. Finally, Aurelio’s parents introduced them to the boy.”
A wide range of workshops and informational events are designed to raise the awareness of both parents and members of the general public for the special needs of children with disabilities. In pursuit of these efforts, FAPIZ produces informational materials, organises campaigns and creates radio shows.
Access to adequate medical care, education and information helps to integrate these children into all areas of society so they can lead independent and dignified lives.
