Kindernothilfe demands safe cities for children worldwide at the „World Urban Forum“

(Duisburg / Kuala Lumpur, 06.02.2018) When tomorrow onwards the nations around the world will discuss the future of the cities in Malaysia, Kindernothilfe will contribute its knowledge: Thanks to the invitation of the German ministry of economic cooperation and development (BMZ), Kindernothilfe will present its work on the protection of children from violence. This coincides as “Safe cities” is a leading topic on the ninth “World Urban Forum”, which will start tomorrow in Kuala Lumpur.

Kindernothilfe has been advocating the more appropriate protection of children in growing metropolises worldwide for years: on the one hand, with specific projects planned by our local partner organisations around the world, on the other hand, with lobby work in Germany. With the campaign “Life in the city is no child’s play” the children’s rights organisation started numerous information- and games activities, but also a petition. In that Kindernothilfe calls for more effort from the BMZ to protect children. In the German tent at the “World Urban Forum” in Kuala Lumpur, Kindernothilfe can put forward various recommendations and demands: for example the legal decision and implementation of child protection systems in cities, the establishment of protective, developmental and play areas as well as the involvement of children to improve their situation.

In addition to the exchange at the World Urban Forum, the Kindernothilfe will present a collection of “Best Practices”-examples and strategies for solving problems. After the World Urban Forum, a study on spreading successful and productive approaches will be published and can be offered to the BMZ and policymakers.

Information on our campaign and the side-event in the German tent at the World Urban Forum on 12th February can be provided by our contact partner, our child’s right expert Frank Mischo (+49.163.2344357 or frank.mischo@kindernothilfe.de).

As one of the biggest Christian children’s rights organisations in Europe, Kindernothilfe helps deprived girls and boys to create an independent and a self-determined life. Kindernothilfe supports 741 projects and provides humanitarian aid. Currently, nearly two million children, their families and communities in 31 countries are cared for and strengthened worldwide by Kindernothilfe.
